As an expatriate, you can decide to continue contributing to the French healthcare insurance scheme by enrolling with the CFE. It allows any French expatriate to be covered against one or more risks according to his/her family status, local specificities and his/her budget.
Whatever the country of expatriation, the CFE offers three insurance options:
The CFE is a Social Security fund whose rules are defined by public authority, just like other Social Security funds.
The level of contributions, the type of benefits, the conditions for enrollment or termination of members and their eligibility for benefits result from laws and orders of the French Social Security code.
The CFE is a private body responsible for public service. It is financially independent thanks to the contributions of its members. The CFE is placed under the supervision of the ministries in charge of social security and budget. Therefore it is subject to account balancing and does not receive any financial help or subsidy.
The CFE is managed by a Board of Directors composed of twenty-one members:
Enrollment with the CFE (Caisse des Français de l’Etranger) allows French citizens living or working abroad to maintain the same level of coverage as that provided by the French Social Security: during your expatriation, you will be entitled to healthcare coverage and will be provided with benefits in the event of a work-related accident. You will also continue contributing to the national pension plan and therefore will be able to validate quarters for your pension calculation.
Upon your return to France after spending some time abroad, your rights will be maintained: you will benefit from French Social Security coverage and will remain covered during the entire time of your expatriation. You can also decide to pay contributions to be covered against one or more risks and therefore adapt your benefit plan to your professional and family status, while benefiting from competitive rates which are lower than those of the standard scheme.
Because health is at the core of your concerns, we are there to help you take care of it and make your everyday life easier. As an expatriate, you are no longer covered by the French Social Security plan and you have decided to contribute to the Caisse des Français de l’Etranger in order to maintain the same level of coverage abroad. Yet healthcare costs vary greatly from one country to another and sometimes may be much higher than those found in your home country.
Your CFE coverage may not be enough to cover all your medical expenses, which is why we offer healthcare insurance solutions allowing you to maintain your insurance coverage abroad equal to what you are accustomed to. In addition, our partnership with the CFE allows us to deal with all your requests via one centralized office: you will have only one contact and one mailing address for all your claims.
